  17. I have an old SMART ONE (BEST DATA Products) 2400X modem which I'm 
  18. trying to use with an old Gateway 386 PC. I recently formatted the drive 
  19. on the PC and loaded MS Windows for Workgroups 3.11. I attached the 
  20. modem to the COM2 port, loaded a Kermit appliclation to test the modem, 
  21. and it doesn't work. I get no error messages.

  23. I'm confident the COM2 port settings are correct and that the modem 
  24. works because I tested the modem on my other PC running Win95 and also 
  25. copied the settings from the Win95 environment. The file comm.drv (the 
  26. driver used by the modem) is on the 386 PC in the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM 
  27. directory.

  29. Am I missing something elementary - an entry in the config.sys or 
  30. autoexec.bat file, perhaps? If you have any advice, please e-mail me
